Significance: Colon cancer ranks as the third leading cause of cancer in the Philippines. The recommendation by the ACS and USPSTF for CRC screening is now at 45 years based from systematic reviews, microsimulation models and increasing trends of EOCRC in their country. However, such data is currently lacking in the Philippines. This paper aims to investigate the incidence of EOCRC to establish a reference for use in future recommendation for colonoscopy in the Philippines.

Background: Colon cancer ranks as the third leading cause of cancer in the Philippines.

Methodology: This is a retrospective cohort conducted in St. Luke’s Medical Center including colonoscopy results for the past ten years. Patient’s age, gender, indication for colonoscopy, and biopsy report were recorded. The incidence of CRC will be calculated for each age group. Data will be summarized using frequencies and percentages for all categoric variables. Pearson’s chi-squared test was used for statistical analysis. P < 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant.

Results: There are 24,538 colonoscopies recorded from 2013 to 2022. A total of 789 CRC cases were gathered and 69 of them were below 50 years old. The adenocarcinoma rate is 1.09% below 50 years old, which is significantly lower than 3.97% among 50 years old and above. The adenocarcinoma rate among patients age 45 to 49 years old (1.39%) is significantly lower when compared among age 50 to 59 (2.03%). Among the 69 patients, majority are female (50.7%) and most of them are from 40 to 49 years old (63.8%). Most common presentation is GI bleeding (52.2%) and the most common location is distal colon (42%).
