Significance: Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) has been used as non-invasive tool to evaluate the small intestines since the year 2000. The appropriate indications for VCE, which include obscure GI bleeding and investigation for inflammatory bowel disease and small bowel tumor, have outlined in detail in consensus guidelines. Positive findings on VCE have clinical implications, which may necessitate further investigation or initiation of therapeutic interventions. In the Philippines, VCE has been available since 2010, albeit delayed and in a limited capacity. We would like to present the experience of a single tertiary center in video capsule endoscopy from 2010 to 2022. The aim of the study is to determine the diagnostic yield of VCE in the real world setting. The study will be a descriptive retrospective review of all patients who underwent VCE at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Global City from January 2010 to December 2022. All VCE procedures were done using GIVEN Pillcam SB. Capsule endoscopy reports of all patients who underwent VCE will be obtained and reviewed. Preceding gastroscopy and colonoscopy reports, as well as subsequent small bowel enteroscopy reports and histopathology findings if available, will also be reviewed. Data gathered will include age, sex, indication, bowel preparation given, bowel preparation evaluation, gastric passage time, small bowel passage time, results and clinical outcome. These will then be analyzed to determine the diagnostic yield, detection rate, retention rate and completion rate. Positive findings on VCE could potentially direct subsequent treatment, which would hopefully translate to better clinical outcomes for our patients.
